VICTORY INDEPENDENT BAPTIST CHURCH KLERKSDORP
Our Mission
We are an independent, Bible-believing local church founded on the New Testament of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Our mission is to reveal the love of God to the world by preaching the Gospel and reflect His light by living a godly Christian life.
Doctrinal Focus for the Month
We believe that sound doctrine shapes our faith and daily walk with Christ. Each month, we will highlight one of our core doctrines, exploring its biblical foundation and its significance in our lives. We invite you to reflect, study, and grow deeper in your understanding of God’s truth with us. This month, we focus on:
End Times
We believe in the pre-tribulation, pre-millennial Rapture of the Church, and the post-tribulation, pre-millennial return of Christ (1 Thess. 4:13 – 18; Rev. 4:1 – 20:15).
What We Believe
Here follows a brief summary of the beliefs we hold to
Scripture
We believe the sixty-six books of the 1611 King James Version of the Holy Bible. Nothing added or deleted, constitute the whole of Scripture “given by inspiration of God” to English speaking people. It is the final authority in the life of the individual believer and the church as a whole. (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21).
God
We believe in one triune God, creator of all that is, existing in the Godhead, in perfection, before and independent of His creation. He is entire goodness, benevolence and wisdom. He is infinite in His attributes (Deut. 6:4; Matt. 28:19; 1 Cor. 13:14; John 14:10, 26).
Jesus Christ
We believe Jesus Christ, was born of a virgin and walked this earth in human flesh, the manifestation of God to man as the Son of God. He is the creator of Heaven and earth, (John 1:1-3) the eternal God. His death was pre-ordained by God the Father as a sacrifice for our sins and carried out under the reign of Pontius Pilate. This was done to provide a substitutionary, legal and just sacrifice for the sins of the entire human race. (Is. 7:14; 9:6; Luke 1:35; John 1:1-2, 14; 2 Cor. 5:19-21; Gal. 4:4-5; Phil. 2:5-8). He was raised from the dead on the third day in order to be the grounds for the justification of all who would be saved (Acts 2:18-36; Rom. 3:24-25; 1 Peter 2:24; Eph. 1:7; 1 Peter 1:3-5). He is presently seated on the right hand of the Father, and will bodily, visibly return to earth for those who have been saved by His blood. (Acts 1:9-10; Heb. 9:24; 7:25; Rom. 8:34; 1 John 2:1-2).
Man
We believe that man was created in the span of a twenty-four hour period. He was created perfect physically and constitutionally, including the moral and spiritual essence. Man, though complete and entire, wanting nothing, was, in his innocence, without moral character. The tree of knowledge of good and evil, a moral testing ground, was, in the wisdom of God, the perfect opportunity for spiritual development. The natural constitution of man (desire for food, etc.) became the basis for temptation. In the eating of the tree, the wilful and direct disobedience to God resulted in legal estrangement from God and precipitated the curse of death on Adam and all his descendants. All men are born under the curse and totally estranged from God. When a descendant of Adam reaches a level of moral understanding (sometime in his youth) he becomes fully, personally accountable to God and is held responsible for his own sin and its consequences, placing him in peril of eternal damnation. No man is capable of rectifying this state of estrangement from God on his own. Apart from the free gift of God through the substitution of Christ for us, there is no hope of salvation (Rom. 1-3).
Hell
We believe in a literal, burning hell where the damned will eternally suffer for their sin (Matt. 25:41-46; Mark 9:43-48; Luke 16:19-26; 2 Thess. 1:7-9; Jude 6-7; Rev. 20:11-15).
Satan
We believe that there exists a created, finite, fallen, heavenly creature called: the Devil, Satan, The Wicked, the Serpent, the Dragon, etc. Who, through a company of fallen angelic creatures, seeks to overthrow the work of God. He is the “accuser of the brethren” and the enemy of all righteousness. His final end will be the lake of fire (Job 1:6-7; Is. 14:12-17; Matt. 4:2-11; 25:41; Rev. 20:10).
Lord's Table
We believe and administer the ordinance of the Lord’s Supper. It is a memorial of our Lord’s death, and is in no sense essential for, nor does it contribute to, the salvation of the soul. (1 Cor. 11:23-26).
Security of the Believer
Believers in the death, burial and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ are absolutely and eternally secure in Christ (1 Cor. 15:1-2; Hebrews 3:6, 14; Gal. 5:1, 4; Hebrews 10:35-39; Colossians 1:22-23).
Separation of Church and State
Church and State differ in their respective natures and functions. The church is not to be identified with the state nor is it, in its faith and practice, to be directed or controlled by the State. The State is responsible for administering justice, ensuring an orderly community, and promoting the welfare of its citizens. The Church is responsible for preaching the Gospel and demonstrating and making known God’s will and care for all mankind.
The Church
We believe that the local church is an indigenous autonomous body of baptized believers, functioning within the parameters of the structure, discipline, and ministry revealed in the New Testament. We believe in the DIRECT LORDSHIP OF CHRIST over every believer and over the local church. By this we understand that Christ exercises His authority over the believer and the local Church directly, without delegating it to some ecclesiastical body or person. The CHURCH is fully autonomous and remains so withstanding responsibilities it may accept by voluntary association.
(1 Cor. 12:12-14; 2 Cor. 11:2; Eph. 1:22-23; 5:25-27; Acts 14:27; 20:17, 28-32; 1 Tim. 3:1-13; Titus 1:5-11).
Salvation
When man reaches his state of moral accountability, and, by virtue of his personal transgression, becomes blameworthy, his only hope is the work of grace performed by Christ upon the cross. Jesus Christ, in human flesh, lived a life of obedience to God, and by virtue of his humanity and Deity, was accounted a worthy substitute for sinning souls. His death and resurrection from the dead are the basis on which God chooses to forgive the repenting-believing sinner. The merits of Christ’s atonement potentially extend to the whole world. The grounds of our salvation is the shed blood of Jesus Christ; the occasion of our salvation is our believing God in this regard. Faith and faith alone being the requirement for the imputation of Christ’s righteousness. (John 1:12; Eph. 1:7; 2:8-10; 1 Pet. 1:18-19; John 14:6).
Holy Spirit
We believe the Holy Spirit to share all the attributes of the Father and the Son. To speak of Him is to speak of God. The earthly ministry of the Holy Spirit is to reprove the world of sin, righteousness and judgment to come. He indwells the believer and leads him into all truth, guiding and equipping them for service. (John 16:8-11; Rom. 8:9, Rom. 12:3-8; 1 Cor. 12: 4-11, 12-14, 28; 2 Cor. 3:6; Eph. 1:13-14, 17-18; Eph. 4:7-12; Eph. 5:18; 1 John 2:20, 27).
Baptism
Water baptism by immersion is to be administered by the church to the morally-spiritually discerning who have put their faith in the finished work of Christ, and have so testified publicly. Water baptism is a picture of the “one baptism” by the Holy Spirit (Into the body of Christ), and neither of itself nor in connection with faith has any efficaciousness in regard to justification. It is step of obedience on the part of the believer who is publically identifying with the death burial and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.
( Matt 28:19-2O)
Heaven
We believe in a literal, physical place called Heaven where God resides with an innumerable company of Cherubim, Living Creatures, Angels, and the redeemed of God (Luke 23:43; 2 Cor. 5:8; Phil. 1:23; 3:21; I Thess. 4:16-17; Rev. 20:4-6).
End Times
We believe in the pre-tribulation, pre-millennial Rapture of the Church, and the post-tribulation, pre-millennial return of Christ (1 Thess. 4:13 – 18; Rev. 4:1 – 20:15).
Religious Liberty
No individual should be coerced either by the State or any secular, ecclesiastical or religious group in matters of faith. The right of private conscience is to be respected. For each believer this means the right to interpret the Scriptures responsibly and to act in the light of his conscience.
The Christian Walk
We believe that the new birth results in a new creature, and hence will be evidenced in a new way of living. Holiness is the normal outflow of new life in Christ. Where there is not holiness the genuineness of true conversion should be questioned (Rom. 12:1-2; 14:13; 2 Cor. 6:14-7:1; 2 Tim. 3:1-5; 1 John 2:15-17; 2 John 9-11).
Priesthood of the Believer
Each believer has direct access to God through Christ our High Priest, and shares with Him in His work of reconciliation. This involves intercession, worship, faithful service and testifying of our Lord Jesus Christ, even to the ends of the earth.
